Throwing a shoe

I think I'm gonna throw a shoe tomorrow. It's gonna be in the 70's and sunny, and the muni golf courses open tomorrow. I also haven't taken a sick day in years.

Oh yeah, and no one seems to know that Throwing a shoe is an expression for calling in sick. I can't say I remember who I got it from, but I believe it goes back to the days when cops used to ride horses. When the horse would "throw a shoe", the cop couldn't work. I googled the expression, but got no answers.???? anyway, the shoe, I'm gonna throw it, for at least 9 holes - or 9 beers, which ever comes first.
